Entrepreneur, Yogi, Teacher, Traveler, Cook

This personal website is a platform for me to share my thoughts about life, love and the pursuit of happiness.

Much of my time is spent serving in the capacity of Director of Serenity at the Inns of Aurora on Cayuga Lake.

I founded and still own a design and marketing firm — Coburn Design, Inc. in 1992. While I am still involved it is in the able hands of Chris Madden and Natalie Kimbrough. I also teach yoga under the brand Eka. You can find out more about my teaching at Eka's web site.

I began studying yoga in 2006 at the YMCA in Auburn, as a healthy way to spend time with a friend. In 2009. I began advanced studies and teacher training. I completed my first 500 hours of teacher training in December of 2012. I then embarked on a Kripalu inspired teacher training at the Infinite Light Center for Yoga and Wellness in Jamesville, NY and graduated in July 2013 and became a certified Yoga Teacher with The Yoga Alliance (RYT). I am a member of the the Himalayan Institute and study periodically at their campus in Honesdale, PA as well as through their on-line content. Continuing Education through the Himalayan Institute has included: "The Mystery and Power of Mantra" with Rolf Sovik, "Fire and Ice: Balancing the Extremes" with Shari Friedrichsen, "The Ayurvedic Kitchen: Prepping, Cooking, Serving & Enjoying" with Kathryn Templeton and Marc Demers, "The Inspired Teacher" with Shari Friedrichsen and "Ayurveda and Pranayama" with Kathryn Templeton and Sarah Guglielmi, and "Yoga for Inner Healing" with Shari Friedrichsen (March 2014). In October and November 2015 I studied with Judith Hanson Lasater in both Toronto (Relax and Renew) and Kansas (Non-violent communication and healing the neck and shoulders). I received  a  certification as a Relax and Renew® Instructor (restorative yoga). I have been invited twice (Montreal and Rochester) to assist Judith in training other Relax and Renew Instructors.

I specialize in detailed instruction with an emphasis on healthy alignment and safe practices. I lead Hatha yoga classes. Hatha yoga is the most widely practiced form of yoga in America.  It is the branch of yoga which concentrates on physical health and mental well-being. Hatha yoga uses bodily postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation (dyana) with the goal of bringing about a sound, healthy body and a clear, peaceful mind. There are a myriad of hatha yoga postures, with even more possible variations, which work to make the spine supple and to promote circulation in all the organs, glands, and tissues. Hatha yoga postures also stretch and align the body, promoting balance and flexibility.
